How to Use your DirecTV Cards

When you have DirecTV’s satellite service for your television, internet and audio entertainment and projects, you receive sparkling clear 100% digital quality of both pictures and sound. The programming variety offered by DirecTV allows you to select your favorites from among hundreds of TV channels. However, the satellites up in the sky don’t know which of these channels you want and paid for. They are like obedient machines. Whatever signals are sent to the satellites from earth are reconfigured and sent back to earth where the dishes capture all the signals directed at them. The dishes are connected by a cable to the receivers that sit on top or beside your TV sets. The receivers send the right channel selections on to your TVs. How do the receivers know what you paid for? When you sign up for your satellite service, in addition to the possibly free equipment you receive, you also receive Direct TV cards.

These cards are about the size of a credit card, and similar in appearance. They contain a special microprocessor that has been programmed by your DirecTV dealer with your name, the serial number of the receiver, and various billing information for you. All of the programs and special packages you selected from DirecTV’s available choices will be programmed into the card also. When you insert the card into the appropriate slot on the receiver, the correct channels will be allowed to show on your TV.

As parents have a valid concern about the quality of television that their children watch, they can program the cards for the TVs that the children have access to. Only the channels that the parents approve of will be shown.

Another important use of this method of tracking information is keeping track of the pay-per-view programs that are watched on each television set. The billing of these extras becomes automatic. The card’s convenience is a boon for all concerned.
